Dorothy Remington

Dorothy (Dot) Remington, beloved grandmother, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully January 22nd, 2026 at the age of 97, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

She was born October 29th, 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland to Ida (Chmielewski) and Louis Golis. It was a chance meeting at a rollerskating rink during WWII that she met her husband, Donald (Don) Remington. Upon returning from war, Don and Dot were married July 19th, 1947 in Baltimore and relocated back to Don's hometown in Antigo, Wisconsin.

Dot dedicated her life to her family and home, having raised six boys and ran a successful grocery business with her husband. In 1966 Don and Dot purchased the Adam's IGA grocery store in Iola, Wisconsin and named it the Iola IGA. In 1980 Don and Dot built a new grocery store on Meadow Road in Iola, modernizing it and expanding their operation. They sold their business to their son Dan (Kathy) Remington in 1995 and enjoyed many years of retirement together.

Dot loved her family and found joy in life's simple pleasures - family, a good book, cooking, her Catholic faith, and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don, her sons Rex and Darrell Remington, her grandson Lucas Remington, and her great-granddaughter Lillias Remington Schmick. She is survived by four sons Dale (Wendy) Remington, Dan (Kathy) Remington, Dean (Wendy) Remington, and Rick (Heather) Remington, her brother Donald (Patricia) Golis, a myriad of cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Above all, Dot will be remembered for her sense of humor, devotion to her family, effusive smile, and warm hugs.
